The deceased is collected from the home, hospital or hospice and prepared with care. The death is certified, and the family decides on the length of the wake, the venue and the timing, in coordination with your district leaders.
The body is cleansed, dressed and placed in the casket, set at the wake with a portrait, white flowers and the Gohonzon space for the chanting.
Over the days the wake runs, family and fellow members gather to chant Nam myoho renge kyo before the Gohonzon. The service is led by members rather than by monks, which keeps it warm, personal and dignified.
On the last day a final round of chanting is held before the casket is sealed and carried out. Cremation is the usual choice, after which the ashes are collected and placed at a columbarium, as the family wishes.
