What a free thinker funeral in Singapore involves

When a loved one passes, the decisions come faster than the grief allows. Within hours, families are asked about the wake, the programme, cremation and timing. Ang Brothers handles all of it, so you can simply be with your family.

A free thinker, or secular, funeral follows no religious rites. Instead it is a personal celebration of a life, shaped entirely by the family. It can include eulogies, favourite music, photo and video tributes, and any tone the family wants, from solemn to uplifting. The setup, timing and length are flexible, and you may choose burial or cremation as you prefer. We help you design every detail so the farewell truly reflects the person.

What happens, step by step

Families often feel calmer once they can see the whole journey laid out. Here is the usual sequence.

In the first hours

The deceased is collected from the home, hospital or hospice and prepared with care. The death is certified, and the family decides on the length of the wake, the venue and the shape of the farewell.

Preparing the deceased

The body is cleansed, dressed and placed in the casket, set at the wake with a portrait, flowers and the personal touches your family chooses.

Designing the celebration

Together we plan the programme: eulogies, favourite music, photo and video tributes, and the tone you want, whether solemn, warm or uplifting. Every detail is yours to shape.

The wake

Over the days the wake runs, family and friends gather to share memories, view the tributes and pay their respects in a setting that reflects the person.

The final service, then burial or cremation

On the last day a closing tribute is held before the casket is carried out. You may choose burial or cremation as the family prefers, after which the ashes are collected and placed at a columbarium or scattered, as you wish.

Making it personal

  • Eulogies and readings, words from family and friends that celebrate the life lived.
  • Favourite music, played live or recorded, to set the mood of the farewell.
  • Photo and video tributes, shown on screen to share memories with everyone present.
  • Flowers and setup, arranged in the colours, style and feel that suit the person.

If you are attending

There are no fixed rites to follow. Dress respectfully, offer condolences quietly, and follow the family's lead. Your warm, calm presence is what matters most.
