What a Christian funeral in Singapore involves

When a loved one passes, the decisions come faster than the grief allows. Within hours, families are asked about the wake, the church service, burial or cremation and timing. Ang Brothers handles all of it, so you can simply be with your family.

A Christian funeral is a service of worship and remembrance, often led by a pastor, with hymns, scripture readings and a eulogy. The tone centres on hope and the promise of resurrection, drawn from the words of John 11:25 to 26, "I am the resurrection and the life." The setting is restrained and peaceful, with white flowers, and the service may be held at the wake, a church or the crematorium, with burial or cremation as the family wishes. We coordinate with your church and pastor so the order of service is exactly as your family wants.

What happens, step by step

Families often feel calmer once they can see the whole journey laid out. Here is the usual sequence.

In the first hours

The deceased is collected from the home, hospital or hospice and prepared with care. The death is certified, and the family decides on the length of the wake, the venue and which church or pastor will lead the service.

Preparing the deceased

The body is cleansed, dressed and placed in the casket, set at the wake with a portrait, white flowers and a Christian backdrop with a cross.

The wake and times of prayer

Over the days the wake runs, the pastor and the church family gather for prayer, hymns and readings, offering comfort and a quiet space for remembrance.

The funeral service

A service of worship is held, led by the pastor, with hymns, scripture readings, a eulogy and a message of hope and the promise of resurrection. It may take place at the wake, in a church or at the crematorium.

Burial or cremation

After the service the casket is carried out for committal. Burial or cremation is arranged as the family wishes, and where cremation is chosen, we handle the collection of ashes and columbarium placement afterward.

The tone of a Christian farewell

  • Hope, the service centres on the promise of resurrection and eternal life rather than only on loss.
  • Hymns and scripture, familiar songs and readings carry comfort and shared faith.
  • White flowers, restrained arrangements that keep the setting peaceful and dignified.
  • Eulogy and remembrance, family and friends share memories and give thanks for a life.

If you are attending

Dress smartly in dark or white. Offer condolences quietly, join in the hymns and prayers as you are able, and know that your presence and support matter more than knowing every part of the service.
